In 2005 and 2006 artists Patricia Ritter and Charlotte Cash designed and painted a 15' x 80' mural in downtown Burkesville, KY - funded through the South Eastern Kentucky Tourism Development Association. It depicts the time when the Cumberland River which runs through this rural county, was the link to the outside world, with steamboats conveying people and goods. The second half of the mural, painted in 2006 shows the next step in transportation - the stagecoach. Connecting small towns and carrying the US Mail, stagecoaches ran until the 1920's when better roads were built and the automobile was introduced. Look for more of their mural work in the coming year.
